Air cargo has become a "status quo" process. There
are efficiencies achieved in consolidation locations, such as cargo
gateway airports, but the benefits of those efficiencies aren't
advantageous to all types of air cargo supply chain activities. Typical
cargo gateway airports have extensive airline networks to distribute
product. The downside to that extensive network is a highly congested
environment. For manufacturers and distributors that are moving air
cargo with special needs, these environments are ill-suited to provide
the extra attention needed to ensure a quality delivery of the product.
Indianapolis International Airport is developing a
world class airport environment for the specialized needs of time and
temperature sensitive air cargo. The airport is North America's 8th
largest cargo airport and the 21st largest worldwide. With an
uncongested airport environment surrounded by the nation's most
connected interstate system, IND provides the support for a reliable air
cargo supply chain.
Chris Matney, Air Service Director for the
Indianapolis Airport Authority, will share an extensive airport
operations comparison of IND compared to the traditional cargo gateway
airports. IND is steadily growing a niche of air cargo services to
support supply chains that require the reliable delivery of their time
and temperature sensitive air cargo needs.
